Blizzard Is Reportedly Working On A Shooter Set In the StarCraft Universe, Led By Far Cry Producer

Blizzard Entertainment is working on a brand new shooter that is set in the Starcraft universe, based on the latest information.

During the latest episode of IGN’s Podcast Unlocked, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier joined the crew to talk about his upcoming book, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment. During the discussion, host Ryan McCaffrey brings up a passage from the book in which Schreier mentioned Blizzard hiring Dan Hay, former producer of the Far Cry series. McCaffrey mentioned that he had met Hay several times at Far Cry events, as he was always the public face for the last two or three Far Cry titles. The book further stated that Hay and a few other Blizzard developers began incubating a new Starcraft shooter.

Further in his book, Schreier speculated that perhaps after the canceled Starcraft Ghost and Starcraft Aeries (another previously unknown spin-off shooter), the third time would be a charm. During the podcast, Schreier said that Blizzard’s history with Starcraft shooters isn’t good. The project was in development at the time of him writing the book, and likely continues to be. He suspects that the upcoming spin-off will make a lot of headlines.

Last month, it was reported that Blizzard Entertainment is currently working on a AAA RPG FPS title, as per the LinkedIn profile of the company’s Senior Director of Product Management, Chris McCabe. We had speculated that it may have something to do with the Starcraft franchise, and it may just be the game Schreier discussed in his book. McCabe began working on the game from April, 2024, and the project is at least 5 months into development. It was also mentioned that the RPG-FPS is being developed for both console (likely current-gen) and PC.

The aforementioned Starcraft is a military science fiction franchise developed by Chris Metzen and James Phinney. Set in the early 26th century, the series revolves around a galactic conflict between four species, namely the adaptable Terrans, the evolving Zerg, the powerful Protoss, and the creator race Xel’Naga, in the Koprulu Sector of the Milky Way galaxy. The franchise has expanded to include several games, novels, and a board game.
