Inxile Entertainment Is Working On Ambitious AAA First-Person RPG Using Unreal Engine 5

Inxile Entertainment is the developer behind the Wasteland series. Their next project sounds ambitious in scope and budget as seen through their job listings.

Wasteland 3 was released last year and it continues to receive post-launch updates from the developer, but their real focus is on developing a next-generation game that is being described as an AAA first-person RPG using Unreal Engine 5. There are multiple positions open for their studio including an Art Director and Facial Animator.

The position for the Art Director is seeking someone who can “transform that direction into mind-blowing game visuals.” It also seeks an understanding of “high-fidelity modeling, materials and shaders pipelines, and advanced lighting techniques.”

The opening for Face Animator is seeking someone who can develop a next-gen animation system. They want to “visually stunning 3D facial animations” and “deliver life-like face performances on original timeless characters.”

So far, they appear to be focused on the top-of-the-line visuals but they are also looking into some next-generation gameplay experience. The opening for Senior Gameplay Designer is asking for someone who can create “powerful, tactile first-person weapons and unique combat abilities that draw the player right into the middle of the action.” Other job openings suggest that this an action RPG.

Since the studio is still clearly hiring for some key positions and they have just released Wasteland 3, it is highly unlikely that this project is due anytime soon. From all accounts, it sounds ambitious and interesting so far, so if you are a fan of Inxile Entertainment, this could be a project to keep your eyes on in the future.
