PS5 Backward Compatibility Warning Added To Every PS4 Game On PlayStation Store

Sony updated every PS4 game listing with a warning regarding PS5 backward compatibility requiring the latest system update and lacking certain PS4 features.

Earlier this month, Sony had shared a list of games that won’t be playable on the PS5 at the time of the console’s launch. While these games won’t be playable now, they will likely get an update later that will make them playable on the PS5 through backward compatibility.

Sony has now updated the PlayStation Store to add a warning regarding PS5 backward compatibility. This warning cautious the buyer that while the game is playable on the PlayStation 5, certain features that are available in it for the PS4 might be missing when playing it on the PlayStation 5.

As an example, here is how the warning reads on The Last of Us Part II store listing for PS4. This generic warning is present on every PS4 game’s store page now.

To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent. See PlayStation.com/bc for more details.

Currently, the link that has been shared on the PlayStation Store appears to go nowhere. It is either broken or hasn’t been updated yet. Sony did have an official update on the support website that listed various issues or compatibility support for PS4 games running on the PlayStation 5.

Interestingly, for games that are only playable on the PS4 as mentioned in the backward compatibility support list shared earlier this year, the page basically lists them as “Playable on: PS4 only”.
