IO Interactive has announced that 007 First Light has been delayed, with the game’s release now scheduled for May 27, 2026. The update was shared directly by the development team, confirming a two-month shift from its previously planned launch window.

In a statement addressed to players, IO Interactive explained the reasoning behind the decision. “Today, we are sharing an update regarding 007 First Light, as we have decided to move the game’s release by two months, to the 27th of May 2026.” The studio described the project as its most ambitious to date and emphasized that the delay is intended to ensure the game meets expectations at launch.

The developers elaborated on the scope of the project, stating, “007 First Light is our most ambitious project to date, and the team has been fully focused on delivering an unforgettable James Bond experience, bringing together breathtaking action, globe-trotting, spycraft, gadgets, car chases, and more.” As an independent developer and publisher, IO Interactive noted that the additional development time would allow the team to uphold its quality standards without compromise.

According to the statement, development is progressing steadily, and the game is already playable from start to finish. “The game is progressing well and is fully playable from beginning to end, so these additional two months will allow us to further polish and refine the experience, ensuring we deliver the strongest possible version at launch.” The studio added that it is confident the delay will benefit the game’s long-term success and thanked players for their continued patience and support.

007 First Light marks the return of James Bond to console gaming, presenting an original origin story that reimagines the character early in his career. The game is being developed and published by IO Interactive in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios and follows a younger Bond as he earns his 00 status. It blends third person action with stealth driven gameplay systems, drawing on the studio’s experience from the Hitman series while adapting them to the Bond universe.

The title was previously showcased in detail during a gameplay presentation in September 2025, where its mix of action, espionage, and sandbox design was highlighted. Platforms confirmed for release include PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch 2. Enhanced features for PlayStation 5 Pro have also been announced.

IO Interactive concluded its message by reassuring players that more information will be shared in the coming months. “We look forward to sharing more updates regarding 007 First Light in early 2026.” While delays are rarely welcome, the studio’s message makes it clear that the extra time is being used to refine an already complete experience rather than address fundamental issues. For now, fans will need to wait a little longer before stepping into Bond’s shoes.
