Riot Games has inadvertently confirmed the long-awaited console launch date for 2XKO after an official trailer was released ahead of schedule and later set to private. The prematurely published trailer revealed that the free-to-play fighting game will launch on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 on January 20, 2026. The title is already available on PC, where it entered Early Access in late 2024.
2XKO represents Riot Games’ entry into the fighting game genre, adapting champions from League of Legends into a fast-paced 2v2 tag team brawler. The game places heavy emphasis on teamwork, coordinated assists, and high-impact combo systems, positioning itself as both accessible and competitive. Development spanned several years under the codename Project L before the game formally emerged as 2XKO.
The PC version of 2XKO entered Early Access on October 7, 2024, allowing players to experience the core systems while Riot continued refining balance and features. Since then, the game has steadily moved toward its full release, with the January 20, 2026 launch marking the transition out of Early Access and onto consoles. The console release will include PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, expanding the player base significantly.
The full launch will support cross-platform play and shared progression. This ensures players can compete together and retain progress regardless of whether they play on PC or console, which is a key component of Riot’s platform strategy for the title. It also reinforces the game’s focus on an interconnected competitive ecosystem rather than isolated player pools.
The accidental trailer release occurred during an already busy period for the game. Earlier in the fall, Warwick and Teemo were added to the playable roster, further expanding the lineup of League of Legends champions available at launch. Although the trailer was quickly removed, the January release date had already circulated widely.
Looking ahead, Riot Games has outlined plans for a competitive circuit in 2026, beginning with the Frosty Faustings major tournament on January 29. The timing places the console launch just days before organized competition begins, suggesting Riot intends to position 2XKO as a serious contender in the fighting game space while still welcoming newcomers.
