Riot Games has shared a new development update for 2XKO, outlining its ongoing priorities for the tag team fighter while confirming two upcoming champions, Akali and Senna.
In a message to players, the team reiterated that its focus remains on three core pillars: duo play, gameplay refinement, and strengthening community and competitive support. According to Riot, these areas will continue to shape updates as development progresses.
Duo play remains a central feature of 2XKO, and the studio is working to make the cooperative experience more accessible. A new Local Duo Mode is currently in prototype, designed to allow two players to team up in couch co-op against other opponents. While final plans are still being determined, the feature has been described as a top priority.
On the gameplay front, Riot addressed community discussions about the direction of 2XKO’s core systems. The team emphasized that the game will retain its fast-paced structure and high skill ceiling, aiming to reward reaction speed and creativity while preserving depth. Balance updates will continue to target outliers in the meta, with a broader goal of ensuring each champion has clearly defined strengths and weaknesses. Developers acknowledged that this clarity is not yet consistent across the entire roster.
Riot also detailed plans to expand support for the competitive scene. The 2026 competitive schedule is already underway, with the next Challenger event set to take place at Genesis X3 beginning February 13. Beyond official tournaments, the studio is developing a program that would provide local tournament organizers with exclusive in-game prizes that cannot be earned elsewhere. The initiative is intended to help grassroots events grow while incentivizing players to participate in local communities. A limited test phase is planned before applications open more widely.
The update also briefly addressed ongoing player concerns. The team is monitoring matchmaking edge cases in Ranked mode that affect competitive fairness. Console players have reported instances of screen tearing, and Riot confirmed that a future update is being prepared to address the issue. Feedback surrounding Yasuo and Ekko was also acknowledged, with developers noting that while both characters have strong identities, their weaknesses may not be sufficiently apparent at high-level play.
Finally, Riot revealed two new champions currently in development. Akali will be the next addition to the roster, described as a fast and precise ninja fighter. Senna will follow, utilizing both light and shadow abilities, combining ranged cannon attacks with aggressive pressure in a spectral form. Both characters are still work in progress, with more details to be shared at a later date.
Riot stated that it will continue gathering feedback as 2XKO evolves, with further updates expected in the coming months.
