Akira Yamaoka is reportedly not involved in Silent Hill Townfall but is returning to work on the Silent Hill Remake, according to a recent post shared on the Silent Hill subreddit. The claim originates from a user who stated they met the composer in person and directly asked about his involvement in upcoming projects.
In a post on r/silenthill, user TheAnthony247 wrote, “Met Akira last night i asked him if he was doing townfall he said no but he said he is doing the 1 remake.”
The Silent Hill Remake is currently in development at Bloober Team and is being published by Konami. Officially announced in 2025 after the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, the project aims to rebuild the 1999 original using Unreal Engine 5. The game follows Harry Mason as he searches for his daughter Cheryl in the fog-covered town of Silent Hill, retaining the themes of occultism and psychological horror that defined the original release.
The remake is set to feature modernized over-the-shoulder gameplay and expanded environments, including deeper exploration of key locations such as Midwich Elementary School.
By contrast, Silent Hill Townfall is a spin-off entry developed by Screen Burn Interactive in collaboration with Annapurna Interactive and Konami. Set in 1996 Scotland, the title adopts a first-person perspective and centers on protagonist Simon Ordell. It is scheduled to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
If accurate, Yamaoka’s reported involvement in the Silent Hill Remake would mark a significant creative return for the franchise, particularly given his longstanding association with its original soundscape. Konami has not yet issued an official statement confirming his role.
