A sequel to Aliens Fireteam Elite appears to have been leaked ahead of its official announcement. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) recently listed Aliens Fireteam Elite 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC, suggesting that a follow-up to the 2021 co-op shooter is on the way. The game received a Mature 17+ rating due to “Blood and Gore, Strong Language, and Violence.”
The listing identifies Daybreak Game Company as the publisher, which marks a notable change from the original game’s publishing arrangement with Disney’s 20th Century Games and Cold Iron Studios. While there has been no formal confirmation from either Daybreak or Disney, the appearance of a complete ESRB rating implies that the project is well into development and nearing an announcement.
Daybreak Game Company, originally founded as Sony Online Entertainment in 1997, has a long history in the online gaming industry. Known for titles such as EverQuest, PlanetSide 2, and DC Universe Online, the studio was acquired by Enad Global 7 in 2020. Its involvement with the Aliens property suggests a new direction, potentially expanding its portfolio beyond live-service and MMO titles.
Aliens Fireteam Elite, developed by Cold Iron Studios, launched in August 2021 across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. It delivered a cooperative third-person shooter experience inspired by the Aliens franchise, where players fought off waves of Xenomorphs in squad-based missions. The title later received a Nintendo Switch cloud version in 2023 and was made available through Xbox Game Pass.
Prior leaks had already hinted at a sequel under the internal codename Project Macondo. According to reports shared by Reddit user firemonkey11, Aliens Fireteam Elite 2 will expand upon the original’s structure with a fresh campaign and improved gameplay elements. Players will reportedly join “Dagger Company,” a group of specialized Xenomorph hunters, each featuring unique abilities and signature weapons.
The leaked materials also mention new features such as evolved enemy AI, diverse mission types, and a new “Annihilation Mode,” offering a revamped take on the series’ Horde Mode. Unlike the original, the sequel is said to feature fixed playable characters with defined archetypes rather than fully customizable marines. Interestingly, the game will not include native in-game text or voice chat, though players can use platform-specific systems for communication.
While official details remain scarce, the ESRB rating leak aligns with prior reports, suggesting that Aliens Fireteam Elite 2 may soon be unveiled. Given the timing and Daybreak’s recent activity, an announcement could be imminent.
