Amazon has ordered two seasons of a TV series based on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s God of War games, and the writer’s room is already in progress.
During an interview with Katee Sackhoff on her YouTube channel, screenwriter and television producer Ronald D. Moore was asked about what he’s working on at the moment. In response, he mentioned that he’s working on a television adaptation of the God of War video game series for Amazon.

While Moore acknowledged that God of War is a big title in the gaming world, he also admitted to not being a gamer. As such, despite giving the God of War game a try, he was unable to get into them because the controls are too complex for him. He mentioned that he grew up in the arcade era, which involved going down to a nearby arcade, putting some quarters in, and “bang on the buttons”. He implied that he was comfortable with those simpler controls that games like Defender or Asteroids had. The screenwriter found modern controllers to be very complicated, with things like buttons on their shoulders.
Moore revealed that Amazon has ordered two seasons of the God of War series. The company has asked him to come in, and so he’s literally in the writer’s room working on the TV series these days.
A TV show based on Sony Interactive Entertainment and Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series was also in development at Netflix. In 2020, the company offered showrunner Steve Blackman a development deal reportedly worth $50 million. In 2022, it announced that he would lead the TV adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn as part of the deal. However, the project was canceled before it could see the light of day due to toxic work culture allegations against Blackman. The latter was accused of “toxic, bullying, manipulative, and retaliatory behavior”. As per sources as well as an HR complaint, the showrunner fostered a toxic workplace environment due to his manipulative and chaotic mindset.
