AMD Engineer Allegedly Claims Next-Gen Xbox Hardware Plans Are “Full Steam Ahead”

Amidst growing uncertainty surrounding the future of Xbox, an AMD engineer has allegedly claimed that plans for next-gen Xbox hardware are “full steam ahead.”

In his latest YouTube video, hardware insider Moore’s Law Is Dead (MILD) shared insight from multiple sources, including an AMD engineer, according to whom, plans for the next-gen Xbox hardware are “still full steam ahead.” The next steps in relation to the project, codenamed Magnus, were allegedly discussed during a progress update meeting on Friday, October 3, 2025. This aligns with other sources MILD reached out to, one of whom claimed that Microsoft has contractual obligations tied to Magnus that would make canceling the project extremely costly.

However, the AMD engineer cautioned that the Magnus SoC is “whatever Microsoft wants to call it.” They mentioned that while it was originally called an “Xbox project”, this could also mean a PC-console hybrid or even an Xbox branded gaming PC SoC set to launch in 2027. MILD doesn’t believe recent rumors regarding the cancellation of the Magnus SoC, with sources familiar with the project claiming that active design work is still ongoing.

MILD described Xbox’s current strategy as “chaotic,” pointing to inconsistent messaging, aggressive pricing shifts, and fading retail presence. Earlier this week, Microsoft announced a 50% price hike for its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier, raising the monthly cost from 20 to 30 US Dollars, alongside a rebranding of its subscription plans. The move has been met with widespread backlash, with reports of people allegedly canceling their subscriptions following the announcement. Meanwhile, US retailer Costco has been clearing out Xbox Series X consoles at steep discounts and has decided to stop selling Xbox consoles altogether, suggesting that current-gen production may be winding down. These factors have led to rumors that plans for future Xbox hardware are “up in the air.” Read about it here.
