AMD Xbox Helix Equivalent RDNA 5 GPU Will Allegedly Launch In 2027, But NVIDIA RTX 6000 Series Won’t

AMD will allegedly launch an Xbox Helix equivalent RDNA 5 GPU in 2027, while the NVIDIA RTX 6000 series will skip next year.

Known hardware insider Kepler_L2 recently took to the AnandTech forums to address speculation about NVIDIA’s next-generation GeForce lineup. After another forum member cited a claim from fellow insider Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID) that NVIDIA had changed its plans and would release the RTX 6090 in 2027, they dismissed the report, saying, “He’s wrong.”

When asked whether the NVIDIA RTX 6000 GPU series roadmap would remain at 2028 or later, Kepler_L2 said, “AT2 is the only GPU getting released next year,” with everything else from both AMD and NVIDIA scheduled for 2028. That essentially means that AMD will alleged launch an Xbox Helix equivalent RDNA 5 GPU in 2027, possibly to compete with NVIDIA’s existing RTX 5000 GPU series. The full AT2 configuration may replace the GPU maker’s Radeon 9070 XT-class offering, while a cut-down version could occupy a lower performance tier.

It’s possible that NVIDIA may have the roadmap and engineering work necessary to release the RTX 6000 GPU series in 2027, but possibly opted to delay its launch due to commercial factors, including pricing, margins, competition and software readiness.

In February, AMD CEO Lisa Su stated that development of Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console was progressing well and was aligned to support a 2027 launch window. The comment was shared during an earnings call as part of an update on AMD’s partnerships and upcoming hardware initiatives. “From a product standpoint, Valve is on-track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year, and development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027,” she said.

Hardware leaks have pointed to a next-generation APU codenamed “Magnus,” reportedly based on Zen 6 CPU architecture and RDNA 5 graphics. Some claims suggest configurations of up to 48GB of GDDR7 memory, though rising component costs and global memory supply constraints are cited as potential obstacles that could impact final specifications or timing.
