Devil May Cry 5 PC version was available to pre-load on Steam ahead of the release and it was cracked easily by pirates, who somehow managed to gain access to an early DRM-free build of the game and used it to patch out any security measures.
Devil May Cry 5 is out today for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game has been cracked ahead of unlocking officially on Steam. This was apparently done with a leaked Exe file for the main game that was an unstable build. As a result, while the game is playable through the pirated copy on PC, it is leading to a lot of crashes and doesn’t appear to be working as normal.

Devil May Cry 5 uses Denuvo DRM on PC. The official store page has confirmed that Denuvo DRM is incorporated for Devil May Cry 5 so the final build that is available on Steam right now doesn’t seem to be DRM-free. The early copy that was cracked by hackers doesn’t contain any DRM protection and this is not the first time it has happened for a game.
Final Fantasy XV was another game that was similarly cracked before it launched on PC. This happened again with the Exe file of the demo version that was available publically on Steam.

Devil May Cry 5 doesn’t have a demo on PC so it is a mystery how the hackers were able to gain access to this debug file that let them bypass any security measures. In any case, the game is still relatively safe on Steam where it seems to be doing really well.
