Apple hosted its September 9 event with a wide-ranging lineup of hardware announcements, marking one of its most significant product refreshes in recent years. Alongside the iPhone 17 series, the company introduced the long-rumored iPhone Air, the Apple Watch Series 11, and a new generation of AirPods Pro.
The highlight of the show was the iPhone 17 family. The standard iPhone 17 features a 6.3-inch display with ProMotion 120Hz, 3000 nits peak brightness, and improved durability thanks to anti-reflective, scratch-resistant glass. Under the hood, it is powered by the A19 chip built on a 3nm process, delivering a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Camera improvements include a 48-megapixel main lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto option, supported by an 18-megapixel front camera. Apple claims battery life is extended by up to eight hours compared to the iPhone 16, with fast charging reaching 50 percent in 20 minutes. Prices start at 799 dollars.
A brand-new device, the iPhone Air, takes the crown as the thinnest iPhone yet at just 5.6mm. It offers a larger 6.5-inch display with the same 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness as the standard model. Powered by the A19 Pro chip, it introduces a slimmer design while maintaining flagship-level performance. The device supports eSIM only, hinting at Apple’s continued transition away from physical SIM cards. The iPhone Air will start at 999 dollars.
For power users, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max include vapor chamber cooling, enhanced GPU and Neural Accelerators, and an ambitious triple 48-megapixel camera setup with ultrawide and telephoto lenses capable of up to 200mm zoom. Prices for the Pro series begin at 1099 dollars. Meanwhile, Apple has also positioned the iPhone 16e as its most affordable option in the lineup, starting at 599 dollars.
The Apple Watch Series 11 focuses on refinement, featuring the thinnest Apple Watch design to date, stronger glass, and enhanced health tracking. It adds support for 5G connectivity, a notable step toward expanding the device’s independence from the iPhone. Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours.
Apple also unveiled the AirPods Pro 3, which feature a refreshed design with foam-infused tips, improved water resistance, and up to double the noise cancellation of the previous model. The earbuds are powered by the new H3 chip and integrate Apple Intelligence for real-time live translation. They also include a heart rate sensor, extend battery life to eight hours, and will retail for 249.99 dollars starting September 19.
