Arcanaut Studios announced Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic during The Game Awards 2025, unveiling the project with a brief teaser trailer. Developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, the title is described as a single player action role playing game centered on a Force sensitive protagonist. The studio stated that the project is in early development for PC and unspecified console platforms.
The announcement positions the upcoming game as a new story set during the Old Republic era, a period previously explored in multiple Star Wars works. Arcanaut Studios referred to the project as a spiritual successor to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, though no formal narrative or mechanical connection was confirmed. The studio did not provide information regarding release timing, gameplay systems, or the extent to which familiar elements of the Old Republic era will appear.
Casey Hudson, who serves as game director, is leading development. Hudson previously directed Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and the original Mass Effect trilogy at BioWare. In a statement included with the announcement, Hudson said the new title will pursue an original narrative rather than continuing or reinterpreting earlier Old Republic stories. He described the project as focusing on themes of choice and moral divergence.
Leadership at Disney Games Group and Lucasfilm Games expressed support for the collaboration. Jay Ong, president of Disney Games Group, said Arcanaut Studios is assembling a team with strong narrative development experience. Douglas Reilly, vice president and general manager of Lucasfilm Games, stated that the Old Republic era offers significant narrative potential and said the collaboration aims to introduce a story not previously explored within the franchise.
More information on Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic is expected as the project progresses beyond its early development stage. Arcanaut Studios is directing interested audiences to its official website for future updates.
