The combat system in Ubisoft’s upcoming open world action-adventure game, Assassin’s Creed Hexe, has received a complete overhaul, it is claimed.
During the latest episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, known insider and co-host Tom Henderson claimed that Assassin’s Creed Hexe developer Ubisoft Montreal is completely overhauling the game’s combat system. He added that the studio hired a contortionist to come in and do the motion capture. As a result, there will be a lot of acrobatics during battles.
According to Henderson, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is the game that everyone at Ubisoft, especially Ubisoft Montreal, wanted to work on because it is likely one of the “safest” games being developed by the company at the moment. He also mentioned that Ezio was planned to come in halfway through the game to teach the game’s protagonist the ways of the Assassin, though he isn’t sure whether that is still the case. The insider further said that Assassin’s Creed Hexe is seemingly planned for release during holiday 2027.
According to Ubisoft’s Marc-Alexis Cote, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, a game involving witches, will be a “new flagship title” in the franchise, one that is set to be “a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game”. This lends some credibility to the rumor regarding the abandoning of the Origins formula after Assassin’s Creed Shadows and taking future entries in a new direction. However, what that direction is exactly remains to be seen.
Clint Hocking was revealed to be the Creative Director and Darby McDevitt returning as Writer on Assassin’s Creed Hexe. However, in February, 2026, it was revealed that Hocking had been replaced by Jean Guesdon.
The most recent entry in the series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, was developed by Ubisoft Quebec. It was released on March 20, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X|S, and on December 2, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch 2.
