Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will release for the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025, marking the franchise’s first appearance on Nintendo Switch 2. The new version has been optimized for both handheld and docked play, giving players the ability to experience feudal Japan’s open world wherever they choose.
According to Ubisoft, the Switch 2 version will take full advantage of the system’s hardware, offering seamless transitions between portable and TV modes. It will also include touch screen functionality, allowing players to navigate in-game menus, maps, and their hideout with increased precision and ease. All content updates introduced since the game’s initial launch will be included from day one, with the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion planned for release in early 2026.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, game director Charles Benoit expressed enthusiasm about bringing the latest Assassin’s Creed title to Nintendo’s new platform. “Whether slipping through the shadows as Naoe or facing foes head-on as Yasuke, players will be able to roam the streets and rooftops of feudal Japan at home or anywhere their journey takes them on Nintendo Switch 2,” Benoit said.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows transports players to 16th-century Japan, allowing them to alternate between two protagonists—Naoe, a nimble shinobi assassin skilled in stealth and infiltration, and Yasuke, a historical samurai known for his brute strength and combat mastery. The dual-character structure lets players approach missions through either stealth or open combat, offering a flexible gameplay experience built around player choice.
The Nintendo Switch 2 release is developed by Ubisoft Quebec, using an upgraded version of the Anvil engine to deliver detailed environments and dynamic weather systems designed to enhance immersion. Cross-progression will be supported across all available platforms through Ubisoft Connect, enabling players to continue their progress seamlessly on different devices.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be available in two editions on Switch 2. The Standard Edition, priced at USD 59.99, will be available physically via a game-key card and digitally through the Nintendo eShop. The digital-only Premium Edition, priced at USD 99.99, includes additional in-game content and cosmetic items.
Originally released earlier in 2025 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and other platforms, Assassin’s Creed Shadows represents the latest major entry in Ubisoft’s long-running historical action series. The game has been widely noted for its depiction of feudal Japan, its dual protagonist system, and the ability to explore a deeply atmospheric world shaped by political conflict and cultural transformation.
