Ubisoft developers recently engaged with fans on Reddit to discuss Assassin’s Creed Shadows, providing fresh insight into both the game’s design choices and the series’ future direction. Associate Game Director Simon, Live Producer Andre, and Level Design Director Luc responded to community questions covering parkour mechanics, post-launch content, dynamic features, and long-standing lore.
When asked about parkour, Simon confirmed that the team is working on “fun parkour stuff,” though details will only be revealed closer to release. Expansions were also addressed, with the team stating that Claws of Awaji remains their sole focus for now, while leaving the door open for more content depending on fan demand. In terms of narrative, the developers hinted that future updates may include deeper exploration of the Assassins versus Templars conflict, along with possible lore surprises.
Andre noted that Assassin’s Creed Mirage influenced Shadows’ development, particularly in the approach to parkour, while also acknowledging that Naoe’s movement style was taken in a unique direction. He also discussed the dynamic season system, suggesting it may reappear in future installments if other teams choose to adopt it. Meanwhile, Luc reaffirmed that the central conflict between Assassins and Templars remains a core pillar of the franchise and will continue to be developed post-launch.
On quality-of-life features, fans inquired about a stat screen for critical chance and other mechanics. Andre responded that while such a feature is not currently a priority, the team is focusing on gameplay improvements that will have a greater immediate impact.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released on March 20, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and macOS, with an iPadOS version planned at a later date. Set in 16th-century Japan, the game follows two protagonists — the kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe and the African samurai Yasuke — as they navigate the turbulent Sengoku period.
