Assassin’s Creed Shadows Reportedly Launching on Nintendo Switch 2 in December

by Ali Haider

According to a recent report from Dealabs insider billbil-kun, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, marking Ubisoft’s first next-generation Assassin’s Creed title to appear on Nintendo’s hybrid console. The game, which originally launched in March 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, will reportedly be released for Switch 2 on December 5, 2025, complete with a physical key card version.

Dealabs’ report states that the Switch 2 edition will be distributed in a “game key card” format rather than a full cartridge, meaning players will need to download the complete title via the internet. This format mirrors other large-scale releases on Nintendo platforms, where high-capacity games are distributed using partial physical packaging for retail shelves but require online installation. French retailer Auchan had previously listed the same edition, with the product box explicitly stating, “Game key card – Downloading the full software via the internet is required.”

The report further notes that a pre-order phase for Assassin’s Creed Shadows is expected to begin in early November, likely around November 7, ahead of the December release window. Pricing for the Switch 2 version is expected to be around €50, though retailers may offer promotional discounts closer to launch. A full announcement from Ubisoft is anticipated once pre-orders officially open.

While Ubisoft has yet to officially comment on the Switch 2 version, the publisher’s close relationship with Nintendo makes such a port plausible. Previous entries in the series, such as Assassin’s Creed III Remastered and Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection, also received Switch releases, albeit with varying levels of optimization. The reported December launch date aligns with Ubisoft’s typical holiday release strategy, suggesting the company aims to capitalize on the Switch 2’s strong first-year sales momentum.

For now, Assassin’s Creed Shadows’s rumored December 5, 2025, release positions it as one of the major holiday launches for the Nintendo Switch 2 lineup—an encouraging sign for both fans of the franchise and those curious about the new console’s capabilities.
