Sony Group Corporation has confirmed that sales of Team Asobi’s 3D platformer, Astro Bot, have reached 1.5 million copies.
In its consolidated financial results for the second quarter ended September 30, 2024, Sony Group Corporation has revealed that sales of Astro Bot have reached 1.5 million copies. The game reached this milestone as of November 3, 2024.
Astro Bot fans will be glad to hear that their favorite 3D platformer has sold reasonably well. The game is likely to have long legs and should continue to sell well during the holiday season.
During a recent Gameindustry.biz podcast, host Chris Dring also had some positive information to share regarding the sales numbers for Astro Bot in Europe. He had stated that the 3D platformer ended up being the best selling game during its first week since launch, with “really strong” numbers. According to him, Astro Bot’s sales were 2% higher than those of Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, 52% bigger than Crash 4, 100% bigger than Sonic Frontiers, 48% smaller than the Spyro Reignited Trilogy remake, and 59% smaller than the Crash Trillogy remake during the aligned period from release.
Prior to that, Dring had also stated that Astro Bot had become the fastest selling original platformer outside of Mario from the last 10 years in the UK, making it a bigger franchise than Sonic, Crash, Yoshi, and Kirby within the region. As per him, the game had sold very well in the country. Meanwhile, things have also been looking bright for Astro Bot in the US. Mat Piscatella, Executive Director and Video Game Industry Advisor at Circana (NPD), had shared that, across both physical and digital sales, Astro Bot ranked second in terms of unit sales in the US for the week ending September 7, 2024, trailing only NBA 2K25. Additionally, he mentioned that the Astro Bot DualSense controller was the week’s best-selling accessory.
