Avatar Frontiers of Pandora From the Ashes Expansion Out Now

by Greg Martin

Ubisoft has released From the Ashes, a new expansion for Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, bringing a darker and more personal chapter to the open-world adventure set on Pandora. The expansion is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC via the Ubisoft Store, Epic Games Store, and Steam, Amazon Luna, and through Ubisoft Plus. Its release coincides with the worldwide theatrical debut of Avatar Fire and Ash, extending the universe across games and film on the same day.

Developed by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney Games, From the Ashes shifts the focus to So’lek, a hardened Na’vi warrior whose story takes center stage as conflict spreads across the Western Frontier. The expansion sends players into the Ravaged Kinglor Forest, introducing a new sub-region known as The Ravines, where long-standing tensions give way to a new and more brutal form of warfare.

At the heart of the expansion is the arrival of the Mangkwan raiders, also referred to as the Ash Clan. Unlike the Na’vi clans encountered in the base game, the Ash Clan represents a sharp tonal shift, pushing the narrative into direct Na’vi versus Na’vi conflict for the first time in the franchise. Their presence signals a break from tradition and escalates the stakes for both So’lek and the wider Resistance.

The story builds on a violent encounter from years earlier between So’lek and Wukula, a Mangkwan warrior left scarred and driven by revenge. That history fuels the central rivalry of the expansion, with Wukula relentlessly hunting So’lek across the Western Frontier. The Ash Clan also includes Zari, a highly trained sniper taught by Recom Lyle Wainfleet. Despite being blind in one eye, Zari is lethal with human weapons and RDA technology, stalking So’lek from afar as she seeks to outdo her brother. Another threat comes from Rakx, who attacks from the air on her ikran, adding vertical pressure to combat encounters.

From the Ashes introduces several major gameplay additions aimed at expanding both combat and exploration. Players will face enemy Na’vi with distinct fighting styles that require more careful tactics and adaptability than previous encounters. Ubisoft describes each enemy as expressing personality through combat behavior, encouraging players to read situations rather than rely on brute force alone.

To support these encounters, the expansion adds new RDA enemies and equipment, including hellhounds, Skel suits, and specialized AMP suit variants designed for RPG, sniper, and shotgun combat. These additions are designed to create more dynamic battles across ground and aerial engagements. Traversal has also been enhanced, and players can now switch between first-person and third-person perspectives, offering greater flexibility in how the game is experienced.

The expansion also brings back Major Tyler Bukowski of RDA Sec Ops, previously introduced in Avatar: The Gap Year Tipping Point. He plays a key role in coordinating cooperation between the RDA and the Ash Clan as they push deeper into the Western Frontier, targeting the Resistance and placing particular focus on the Sarentu and So’lek.

Ubisoft has positioned From the Ashes as both a narrative and mechanical evolution for the game. The expansion is available as a standalone purchase for players who already own the base game, or as part of new editions that bundle content together. Alongside the expansion, the main game recently received a free title update on December 5, introducing New Game Plus and a third-person camera option, two features frequently requested by the community.

Players can purchase the From the Ashes expansion on its own for €24.99 or $24.99. The From the Ashes Edition, which includes the base game, the expansion, and the Floating Mountain bonus content, is priced at €39.99 or $39.99. A Complete Edition is also available for €59.99 or $59.99, bundling the base game, the expansion, the Season Pass, the Floating Mountain bonus content, and additional extras.
