Avowed Launches on PlayStation 5 With Anniversary Update

Obsidian Entertainment has announced that Avowed will officially launch on PlayStation 5 on February 17, expanding the first-person fantasy role-playing game to a new platform alongside a substantial anniversary update across all systems. The announcement was shared through the official Avowed social media account, confirming that pre-orders are now live on the PlayStation Store with two editions available. According to the post, “$49.99 Standard Edition and $59.99 Premium Edition” will be offered to PlayStation players ahead of release.

The PlayStation 5 launch coincides with the Avowed Anniversary Update, a free content update that will be available simultaneously on all platforms. This update introduces several long-requested features and gameplay additions, positioning the release as more than a straightforward port. Chief among the new additions is New Game Plus, allowing players who have completed the main story to restart with retained progression under modified rules. Photo Mode is also being added, enabling players to capture and save in-game screenshots.

In addition to these features, the anniversary update expands character customization and combat options. Players will gain access to three new playable races, specifically dwarves, orlan, and aumaua. A brand new weapon type is also being introduced, further broadening the game’s combat systems. Obsidian has indicated that these updates are part of a larger package, with additional improvements included beyond the headline features.

Details for New Game Plus outline a structured reset with meaningful carryover. Players will begin again at Level 1, but all previously earned Ability and Attribute points will transfer to the new save. The maximum Attribute cap is being increased from 30 to 60, while enemy NPCs will scale upward with increased stats. Unique weapons and armor will carry over, though they will be reset to Common quality. Non-unique gear, resources, currency, crafting materials, and consumables will not transfer, creating a balance between progression and challenge.

Originally released on February 18, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S and PC, Avowed is set in the Living Lands of Eora, the same universe established by the Pillars of Eternity series. Players take on the role of a Godless envoy tasked with investigating the Dream Scourge, a spreading spiritual corruption tied to the region. Since launch, the game has become a notable success for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and a key title in Microsoft’s broader multi-platform strategy.
