Ayaneo Halts Next 2 Pre-Orders Amid Rising Costs

by Greg Martin

Ayaneo has suspended pre-orders and sales of its upcoming Next 2 handheld, citing a sharp increase in storage component costs. The company confirmed the decision in an update to backers, noting that the product has been removed from Indiegogo and other sales channels for the time being.

According to Ayaneo, the pricing situation changed significantly after the Chinese New Year, when updated supplier quotes revealed that storage costs had surged to several times their previous levels. The company stated that this increase has pushed the overall production cost of the Next 2 far beyond its current retail price, in some cases, nearing double the original estimate. As a result, continuing sales under the existing pricing structure was deemed unsustainable.

The handheld, positioned as a next-generation flagship Windows gaming device, had already been facing cost pressures prior to launch. Ayaneo explained that storage prices had been climbing for months, but the team initially believed the market was nearing its peak. Despite slim margins and the possibility of operating at a loss, the company proceeded with the launch in February to meet expectations from its community.

However, the continued rise in component costs forced a reassessment. Rather than adjusting the retail price repeatedly, Ayaneo opted to pause sales altogether, stating that frequent price changes could negatively impact consumers and the brand’s long term position.

For customers who have already placed pre-orders, the company says there will be no disruption. Production will continue as planned, and all existing backers will receive their devices. Ayaneo also emphasized that after sales support will remain intact, with sufficient spare parts and long term service commitments in place.

The company framed the move as a temporary measure rather than a cancellation. While there is no clear timeline, Ayaneo indicated that it may resume sales of the Next 2 if storage prices return to more stable levels. Until then, the device will remain unavailable for new orders.
