The May, 2025, update for Battlefield 2042 introduced a range of quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and the return of a popular time-limited event, Battle of Nordvik. It also implemented a significant change to the game’s security architecture by requiring Secure Boot for supported PC hardware, adding a new step in EA’s effort to maintain a fair and competitive environment. With a mixture of gameplay, technical, and progression adjustments, the patch aimed to refine the experience across multiple modes and maps, while reinforcing EA’s ongoing Positive Play initiative. Additionally, the game received new lore through the updated Codex and adjustments to specialist abilities based on community feedback.
Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19, 2021, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Breaking from tradition, it is entirely multiplayer-focused, with no single-player campaign. It is also the first entry to support crossplay.
