Battlefield 6 is now the best-selling shooter of the year 2025, according to the game’s publisher Electronic Arts.
The webpage for Battlefield 6 on EA’s official website (via NextGenPlayer on Twitter/X) has been updated with a new notification that states, “Thank you for making Battlefield 6 the best-selling shooter game of the year.” It’s worth mentioning that rival first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launched less than a week ago on November 14, 2025. While things may change by the end of the year, early signs suggest that EA’s shooter may maintain its sales lead heading into next year.
Black Ops 7 began its retail life in the United Kingdom with a quieter physical launch than Battlefield 6, according to industry data recently disclosed by The Game Business Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder Chris Dring. In a post shared on social media, Dring stated that “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 had a smaller UK retail launch (physical sales) than Battlefield 6 (GfK data).” When someone asked how the game stacked up against its predecessor, Black Ops 6, Dring gave a concise answer: a “-61%” figure. Some users tried to explain this drop by pointing to the general shift toward digital buying, noting that most of the series’ audience now heavily favors online stores. However, Dring immediately challenged that idea by quoting the percentage again and asking, “61 percent… year on year isn’t surprisingly?”
Earlier, it was reported that the launch of Black Ops 7 barely managed to bring the Call of Duty app back in the Steam Most Played top 10 list, ranking well below recently released premium titles like Arc Raiders and Battlefield 6. The game’s availability on Xbox Game Pass may have played some role in its lower than expected performance, but it’s worth taking into account that the release of Black Ops 6 drove much higher numbers last year on Valve’s digital platform despite it also being available day one on Microsoft’s game subscription service, which itself was significantly cheaper back then than it is today.
