Battlefield 6 Campaign Reportedly Falls Short Compared to Multiplayer

While early impressions of Battlefield 6’s multiplayer have been overwhelmingly positive, the same cannot be said for its single-player campaign. According to multiple reports from industry insiders and content creators, the campaign may not meet the high standards expected from such a major release.

Well-known leaker Tom Henderson suggested that the single-player component could drag down the game’s overall critical reception. “I know a lot of people won’t play Battlefield 6 for the campaign, but it looks like it needs a lot of work. It probably makes what would be a high 80s/low 90s Metacritic game a mid-70s at the moment,” Henderson remarked.

Content creator BigFryTV, who was invited to test three missions, offered a similar perspective. “Unfortunately, in contrast to the incredible multiplayer experience, the campaign suffers from a clear lack of polish and, even more seriously, a lack of fun. At best, what we have here is an okay campaign. But when we look around and see how other companies do it, the comparison is inevitable. After playing these three missions, I can say with confidence: single-player mode will be the weakest part of Battlefield 6,” he explained.

Despite these criticisms, Battlefield 6 is still expected to perform strongly thanks to its robust multiplayer offering. The beta test in August drew in over 500,000 players, and feedback praised its blend of classic Battlefield gameplay with new features such as Escalation mode. With four returning classes—Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon—the multiplayer experience has already established confidence among fans.

Battlefield 6 is the eighteenth entry in the series and launches worldwide on October 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The campaign is set in 2027, focusing on a conflict between a fractured NATO and Pax Armata, a private military group. Developed by Battlefield Studios and published by Electronic Arts.

Although concerns linger about the single-player mode, the franchise is aiming for redemption after the troubled release of Battlefield 2042. Under the leadership of Vince Zampella, the new entry adopts a more serious tone inspired by Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. Whether the campaign’s shortcomings will significantly impact its reception remains to be seen, but the multiplayer foundation appears to be strong enough to carry the launch.
