The Battlefield franchise is entering new territory with Battlefield RedSec, a free-to-play multiplayer expansion launching alongside Battlefield 6’s first major update. This standalone battle royale experience, available on October 28, 2025, marks the series’ first foray into the genre, offering a dynamic mix of large-scale warfare, tactical scavenging, and squad-based survival. Built around the newly revealed Fort Lyndon map, Battlefield RedSec seeks to deliver a distinctly Battlefield twist on the battle royale formula while connecting to the larger Battlefield 6 ecosystem.
Players eager to jump in will be able to pre-load Battlefield RedSec once the update becomes available later today. Those who already own Battlefield 6 can access the game by downloading version 1.1.1.0, then navigating to their game library to manually install RedSec from the available add-on components. For new players, the free standalone version can be downloaded directly via Steam or the Xbox Store, with PlayStation links expected shortly.

The Map: Fort Lyndon
At the heart of Battlefield RedSec lies Fort Lyndon, a sprawling, war-torn environment that serves as the battleground for up to 48 players per match. The map blends dense urban districts with open spaces ideal for long-range encounters, as well as interior corridors and rooftops that favor close-quarters skirmishes. Designed to support both RedSec’s main Battle Royale and its secondary Gauntlet Mode, Fort Lyndon’s layout emphasizes verticality, destructibility, and evolving tactical engagement throughout each match.
Game Modes
Battlefield RedSec features three distinct gameplay experiences:
1. Battle Royale Initiation (BR Duos)
This entry-level mode serves as an introduction to the game’s mechanics. It uses a condensed version of Fort Lyndon and caps matches at 48 players. Players can redeploy once early in the match using the Second Chance system, while optional Contracts and Respawn Points add strategic depth. Victory comes down to being the last surviving squad as the Circle of Death closes in.
2. Gauntlet Mode
A unique take on Battlefield’s traditional multiplayer, Gauntlet Mode introduces objective-based rounds where eight squads of four compete in successive operations. Each round has its own mission type, from territory control to sabotage objectives, with the first squad to win four rounds claiming total victory.
3. Portal Community Creations
RedSec includes full access to the Battlefield Portal toolset, allowing players to create or modify their own custom experiences. The developers will highlight standout community creations through regular updates, ensuring the mode remains fresh long after launch.
Classes, Customization, and Loot
RedSec maintains Battlefield’s class-based structure, featuring Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon roles, each equipped with unique combat abilities. Loadouts can be customized with weapons, gadgets, and class-specific items, while Class Chests found throughout the battlefield grant specialized gear.
Looting plays a key role in survival, with color-coded crates marking item rarity — green for common gear, red-and-black for rare items, and red with symbols for class-specific items. Vehicles and locked vaults provide high-value loot, and Support players can deploy Supply Boxes to resupply teammates during critical engagements.
Players can now equip secondary weapons, hijack vehicles, and even pilot the Covenant-inspired Wraith tank for the first time in a Battlefield battle royale. Shared ammo categories further streamline resource management, allowing for more fluid combat flow.
Squad Play and Progression
RedSec places strong emphasis on teamwork. Squads drop into Fort Lyndon under the direction of a designated leader but can split off mid-air for tactical positioning. Communication tools such as pings, text chat, and voice chat help coordinate strategies and share loot efficiently.
Progression is tied to performance: XP is awarded for kills, completed contracts, and overall survival, unlocking further customization options. The Second Chance system gives each player one automatic redeploy early in the match, while Respawn Points allow teammates to revive fallen allies if activated.
Twitch Drops: Season 1 Rewards
To celebrate RedSec’s launch, EA has partnered with Twitch for a new Drops campaign running from October 28 at 8 a.m. PT to November 4 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Players can earn exclusive cosmetics by watching participating Battlefield streamers. Rewards include:
- Watch 1 Hour: “Hitchhiking” Vehicle Decal
- Watch 2 Hours: “Marauder” Vehicle Skin
- Watch 3 Hours: “Highland Hunter” Weapons Package
- Watch 4 Hours: “No Mercy” Soldier Skin
To participate, viewers must link their EA and Twitch accounts before watching eligible streams. Rewards will automatically appear in players’ Drops Inventories and can be claimed for use in both Battlefield 6 and RedSec.
A Free Battlefield Experience with Purpose
While RedSec is a free standalone mode, it shares the same foundation as Battlefield 6, integrating seamlessly with the main game’s progression and seasonal content. Set between 2027 and 2028, Battlefield 6 portrays a global conflict between a fragmented NATO and a private military power known as Pax Armata. RedSec expands that universe, providing a new way to experience large-scale combat without the barrier of entry.
By combining the franchise’s signature intensity with modern battle royale elements, Battlefield RedSec represents EA and DICE’s most ambitious step toward revitalizing the series’ multiplayer experience. Whether players are returning veterans or first-time recruits, RedSec offers a streamlined but deeply tactical version of Battlefield’s chaotic warfare—one that seems poised to capture both long-time fans and an entirely new audience.
Battlefield RedSec launches today as a free-to-play mode for Battlefield 6 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
