Battlefield 6 Season 1: REDSEC Launches with New Maps, Modes, and Full Roadmap Revealed

by Greg Martin

Electronic Arts and DICE have officially unveiled the full roadmap for Battlefield 6 Season 1, marking the arrival of REDSEC — a new free-to-play experience that expands the franchise into large-scale battle royale combat. The announcement introduces a wealth of fresh content spanning three distinct phases: Rogue Ops, California Resistance, and Winter Offensive. Each phase adds new maps, modes, vehicles, and weapons to both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, setting the stage for one of the series’ most ambitious seasons yet.

Season 1, titled REDSEC, takes players to the rugged expanse of Southern California, specifically to Fort Lyndon, a sprawling environment packed with military complexes, beaches, and industrial ruins. It stands as the largest map in Battlefield history, offering multiple points of interest that cater to all types of combat engagements — from vehicle-heavy skirmishes to close-quarter firefights. The setting also forms the foundation of REDSEC, a standalone free-to-play title that introduces two new core modes: Battle Royale and Gauntlet.

REDSEC – Battlefield’s Evolution into Free-to-Play Warfare

Built on the franchise’s DNA of tactical destruction and squad-based warfare, REDSEC reimagines the Battlefield experience for the modern era. Its headline feature, Battle Royale, supports up to 100 players in either squad or duo formats. Combat unfolds in fast-paced survival matches where teams scavenge weapons, vehicles, and loadout items, while completing side missions for superior rewards. Strategic depth remains a hallmark of the series, with class-based systems, upgrade kits, and powerful vehicle call-ins all part of the meta.

In addition to its main mode, REDSEC introduces Gauntlet — a knockout-style elimination experience designed for squads competing in a sequence of missions. From decryption and extraction to territory domination and explosive transport, each mission presents different objectives, forcing teams to adapt and survive across multiple rounds. The lowest-performing squads are eliminated after each phase, culminating in a high-stakes final duel.

Completing the package is REDSEC Portal, a robust creative toolset that allows players to design custom experiences. For the first time, all REDSEC assets, including Fort Lyndon, Battle Royale, and Gauntlet, will be freely accessible, allowing creators to experiment with Battlefield’s sandbox like never before.

Season 1 Roadmap: From California to Frozen Frontlines

Following the launch of Rogue Ops on October 28, Season 1 will unfold through two additional phases — California Resistance and Winter Offensive. Each update adds new content across both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC.

Rogue Ops (October 28)
The opening phase introduces Blackwell Fields, a sprawling All-Out Warfare map set in Southern California, along with the 4v4 mode Strikepoint and the Traverser Mark 2 armored transport vehicle. REDSEC players gain access to its Battle Royale and Gauntlet experiences, alongside new weapons including the SOR-300SC, GGH-22, and Mini Scout.

California Resistance (November 18)
The second phase shifts the battle to Eastwood, a suburban combat zone featuring the new Sabotage mode. REDSEC expands with additional missions, new weapons such as the DB-12 shotgun and M357 Trait revolver, plus a unique vehicle — the Turfpro PVT Royale golf cart. Players can also discover rare Battle Pickups, powerful high-value weapons capable of turning the tide in critical moments.

Winter Offensive (December 9)
The final phase of Season 1 brings an environmental twist with the Ice Lock event. Brooklyn’s Empire State map receives a chilling makeover, featuring a temperature-based Freeze mechanic that drains player health unless they stay within heat zones. This event will run across both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, introducing new Gauntlet challenges, the Ice Climbing Axe melee weapon, and additional Portal updates to close out the year.

Expanding the Arsenal: Weapons, Vehicles, and Attachments

Season 1’s content rollout adds several functional weapons and attachments usable across both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. Highlights include the SOR-300C Carbine Rifle, Mini Scout Sniper Rifle, and GGH-22 Sidearm, alongside new attachments like the Rail Cover, LPVO Sight, and Slim Handstop Grip. Vehicle enthusiasts will also find new additions such as the Traverser Mark 2 and the golf cart-inspired Turfpro PVT Royale.

The Season 1 Battle Pass provides over 100 tiers of unlockable content, divided into four thematic paths — Rogue Ops, Soldiers of Fortune, Pacific Ghost, and Denial Ops. Completing all paths unlocks a final “Ultimate” reward track.

For dedicated players, Battlefield Pro offers premium benefits including instant unlocks, tier skips, persistent Portal servers, and exclusive cosmetic items. It acts as a fast-track option for players who want immediate access to top-tier content without waiting through the progression grind.

A New Era for Battlefield

Battlefield 6 Season 1 signals a bold expansion for the franchise, bridging traditional multiplayer warfare with free-to-play innovation. REDSEC, in particular, stands as a testament to DICE’s willingness to experiment within its sandbox while preserving the large-scale, team-driven chaos that has defined the series for decades. With an evolving roadmap and consistent seasonal support, Season 1 lays the groundwork for what appears to be a reinvigorated era of Battlefield.

Whether you are storming the badlands of Fort Lyndon or braving the frozen streets of Brooklyn, this season ensures that no two battles will ever play out the same way.
