EA and Battlefield Studios’ first-person shooter, Battlefield 6, appears to use generative AI for the creation of certain in-game assets.
Battlefield Studios recently released new winter-themed paid content for Battlefield 6, and fans are now beginning to spot signs suggesting they were created using generative AI (via Willcario on Reddit). One specific player card sticker contains telltale signs of the use of the technology.
As evident from the above screenshot, the Winter Warning player card sticker in Battlefield 6 appears to be AI generated. A close examination of the artwork on the sticker reveals that the featured M4A1 weapon has two barrels instead of one and the character’s right hand appears to have four fingers rather than five.
Fans expressed their disappointment over this discovery. “I would literally prefer to have no sticker than some low quality AI generated garbage. You can look at [Call of Duty: Black Ops7] and see how many favors AI generated rewards won with them,” said a Reddit user. Meanwhile, one fan pointed out, “Im also almost certain that all of the ‘An X for the Y’ descriptions are AI generated. They are a specific kind of cringe that i just can’t believe was created by a human.” According to another user, “If they’re using AI for useless item shop filler junk I can only imagine how much it’s being used to develop the rest of the game.”
Back in October, members of the Battlefield 6 development team stated that while generative AI tools were indeed part of Battlefield 6’s production process, they were only used in the preparatory stages of development, not in the game itself. Instead, they were used “to allow more time and more space to be creative.” The statement implied that the final product was handcrafted by the game’s designers and artists.
Battlefield 6 is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC.
