Battlefield REDSEC, the new free-to-play battle royale spinoff of Battlefield 6, is getting review bombed on Steam (via Twitter/X user ModernWarzone). With only 36% positive reviews out of more than 2,500, the game currently sits with a “Mostly Negative” label. While some players acknowledge the impressive map size and environmental destruction, the majority are frustrated with two major issues, forced Battle Pass challenges and the lack of solo matchmaking.

Many longtime Battlefield fans feel alienated by how REDSEC has been integrated into Battlefield 6’s ecosystem. “I do not like being forced to do challenges for the battle royale, when I’m just interested in playing the base game,” one user wrote. Another echoed the same frustration. “I bought Battlefield 6 for its core modes; I shouldn’t be forced into playing REDSEC because half of my weeklies are tied to a mode I don’t want to play.”

This sentiment is widespread among players who expected REDSEC to not be integrated with Battlefield 6’s progression. “I wouldn’t hate it so much if I wasn’t forced to play it for challenges in the main game. But I am. So I do,” a player noted bluntly. Several others also criticized the decision to lock Battle Pass progression behind battle royale missions, calling it “a huge L” for paying customers.

The absence of a solo queue has added further fuel to the fire. “No solo mode… it doesn’t feel good to play with randoms against premade coordinated squads,” one player lamented. Another said, “No solo queue and no disable autofill option… I wouldn’t have downloaded the game if I knew that beforehand.”

Even those open to the battle royale mode are disappointed with how it overshadows Battlefield 6’s traditional large-scale warfare. “BF6 base multiplayer gets small maps with limited destruction. BF BR gets a massive map with whole buildings coming down,” one user complained, calling for Battlefield Studios to “spend more time making Conquest a true BF experience.”
