Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that Starfield will continue to expand with new story-driven content, free updates, and significant gameplay improvements. The announcement came through a new development video featuring Tim Lamb, lead creative producer at Bethesda Game Studios.

“I think as it comes to Starfield, I’m really excited for players to see what the teams been working on. We have some cool stuff coming, including free updates and features the players have been asking for, as well as a new DLC story. I can’t go into all the details just yet, but I will say part of the team has been focused on space gameplay to make the travels there more rewarding. We’re also adding some new game systems, and a few other smaller delights. There’s also some really interesting stuff coming down the pipe from our verified creators. There’s some fun stuff. I just want to say thanks. We really appreciate the support and the enthusiasm. We can’t wait to get it into the hands of our players,” Lamb explained.

The update signals Bethesda’s intent to refine core gameplay, with space travel receiving particular attention. Players can also look forward to brand new systems being added to the game, alongside smaller quality-of-life features that aim to improve the overall experience. In addition, official support for community-driven creations will expand, allowing verified creators to bring more content into the universe.

Starfield originally launched in September 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, marking Bethesda’s first new intellectual property in more than two decades. Often described as “Skyrim in space,” the role-playing adventure places players in a vast galaxy where they can explore planetary systems, pursue story missions, and craft their own path as part of the explorer group known as Constellation.

The game has continued to evolve since release. Its first major expansion, Shattered Space, arrived in September 2024, adding a new storyline and locations. Now, Bethesda appears committed to keeping the galaxy alive with both paid and free content, alongside systems improvements requested by the community.
