Bethesda has outlined the key features coming to Starfield on PlayStation 5, offering a closer look at how the space RPG will take advantage of Sony’s hardware ahead of its release.
The PS5 version introduces full DualSense support, with adaptive triggers providing varying levels of resistance depending on weapon type. This applies to both ground combat and starship encounters, giving each action a more tactile feel. The controller’s light bar is also integrated into gameplay, changing color based on player health or ship status and pulsing red during critical moments.
Additional immersion features include audio playback through the DualSense speaker, where voice logs and ship communications will be heard directly from the controller. The touchpad is also utilized for navigation, allowing players to quickly access maps, switch perspectives, activate the hand scanner, and open menus such as inventory and missions through presses and swipe gestures.
On the technical side, players will be able to choose between quality and performance modes, with the latter targeting 60 FPS for smoother gameplay. The quality mode focuses on enhanced visuals. For those using PlayStation 5 Pro, additional options are available through PSSR upscaling technology. Pro Visual Mode targets a 4K output at 30 FPS, while Pro Performance Mode aims for 60 FPS with improved fluidity.
Starfield is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026, marking its arrival on the platform following its earlier release on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The launch coincides with the Terran Armada expansion and a major update introducing new traversal features, as Bethesda continues to expand the game’s scope.
