Bethesda Hints at Big Starfield Plans in the Near Future

Bethesda Game Studios has deployed a new beta update for Starfield, offering several quality-of-life improvements and stability enhancements. The update, version 1.15.222, is currently available via Steam Beta and focuses on refining user experience while setting the stage for upcoming additions the studio hints are on the horizon.

Among the key features included in this patch are small but notable changes to the Creations menu, improvements to mission sorting, and bug fixes addressing visual issues with Extreme Temperature gear. Additionally, the update brings with it a round of general crash and stability fixes to improve gameplay reliability.

While the technical changes are modest, Bethesda’s closing remarks in the announcement are perhaps more significant. The studio noted it is “continuing work on future updates and will share more about the exciting things we have planned for Starfield in the coming months.” This tease comes at a time when the broader future of the game, and its potential expansion to other platforms, is being heavily speculated.

Currently an Xbox and PC exclusive, Starfield has recently been the subject of mounting rumors suggesting a potential PlayStation 5 release. The speculation is further fueled by Microsoft’s broader shift toward a multiplatform strategy. The company is expected to launch Gears of War Reloaded on PS5 in August, coinciding with the release of Helldivers 2 for Xbox on the same date, August 26, 2025. These developments have prompted discussions over whether the longstanding rivalry between Sony and Microsoft may be softening, at least from a publishing perspective.

Despite Microsoft’s increasingly open stance, Sony continues to emphasize exclusivity as a cornerstone of its content strategy. Even so, if the rumors hold true, Starfield might soon become another major Xbox title to make the leap to PlayStation, marking a significant shift for Bethesda’s release model.

Released on September 6, 2023, Starfield is Bethesda’s first new intellectual property in over two decades. Players assume the role of an explorer navigating a richly detailed and procedurally generated galaxy, uncovering artifacts and unraveling a narrative that spans multiple star systems. Director Todd Howard once described the game as “Skyrim in space,” a vision largely realized through the enhanced Creation Engine, tailored specifically for the game’s ambitious scale.

Although its launch was delayed multiple times following its 2018 announcement, the game arrived to generally positive reviews. The first major downloadable expansion, Shattered Space, launched on September 30, 2024, offering new content to players eager for deeper narrative arcs.
