Bethesda Softworks may be working on a remastered version of Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout: New Vegas alongside a Fallout 3 remaster.
Windows Central’s Jez Corden took to Twitter/X to comment on a report regarding Bethesda Softworks working on a Fallout 3 remaster. Responding to another Twitter/X user who told Fallout: New Vegas fans to “cope”, Corden bluntly told them to not worry because Fallout: New Vegas remastered “is coming too.”
During a recent interview with GQ, Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard offered a glimpse into the progress of The Elder Scrolls VI, confirming that the long-awaited action role-playing game is still far from release. He revealed that while the studio continues to support Fallout 76 and “other things”, The Elder Scrolls VI remains its “everyday thing.” According to VGC, one of these other projects is a remaster of Fallout 3.
For the uninitiated, Fallout: New Vegas is an action role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks. It was released on October 19, 2010, for Windows PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The game takes place in the Mojave Desert, 204 years after a catastrophic nuclear war. Players assume the role of a courier who narrowly survives an assassination attempt and becomes entangled in a power struggle among competing factions seeking dominance over the region. The game features an expansive open world, featuring exploration, combat with a range of weapons, and branching conversations with NPCs through dialogue trees.
Following the success of Fallout 3 in 2008, Bethesda Softworks hired Obsidian to create a standalone entry in the series. The team selected Las Vegas and the surrounding Mojave Desert as the setting, as these locations complemented the franchise’s retro-1950s aesthetic and echoed the desolate tone of Mad Max. Game director Josh Sawyer built the narrative around themes of greed and excess, drawing heavily from the history of Las Vegas.
