Activision’s upcoming first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, will allegedly offer more post-launch content than Modern Warfare 3, while Modern Warfare 4 will bring a “significant” engine upgrade.
Known Call of Duty insider TheGhostOfHope took to Twitter/X to share some new details regarding the post-launch content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and the engine for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. According to their sources, the current plan at Activision is for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to have a lot of content from Seasons 1 through Season 4, and then taper off in order to get time to aggressively push the marketing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
The insider further mentioned that Treyarch had pulled some of the planned post-launch content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 earlier this year, and is now planning on repurposing it for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
As per TheGhostOfHope, Treyarch and Raven Software have been told to leave nothing on the table for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone. They have been told that the reason behind this is that the engine upgrade for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be “very significant”. As a result, those assets would be required to be heavily reworked. Therefore, the current agenda at Treyarch and Raven Software is to focus on finishing all post-launch content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and release it before the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
As for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 post-launch content after Season 4, the insider clarified that Treyarch and Raven Software won’t be cancelling any Season. According to them, Season 5 and beyond are just going to offer a little less content than Season 1 to 4, since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be promoted aggressively alongside a multiplayer Beta.
