Blades of Fire Launches on Steam May 14 With Demo

by Greg Martin

MercurySteam and 505 Games have confirmed that Blades of Fire is coming to Steam on May 14, 2026. Alongside the release date announcement, the studio has made a dedicated demo available starting today as part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest.

Blades of Fire places players in the role of Aran de Lira, described as the last warrior capable of forging true steel in a world where metal has turned to stone. The game centers on a combat system built around deliberate and methodical encounters, where survival depends on carefully crafting weapons and understanding both their strengths and the enemies they are designed to face. According to the developers, each weapon is shaped by player choices and permanently defined by how it is forged, reinforcing a slower and more tactical approach to progression.

The newly released demo offers several hours of gameplay and introduces players to the forging system, core combat mechanics, and a boss encounter against a troll. Progress made during the demo will carry over to the full game at launch, allowing players to continue their journey without restarting.

The Steam release will include Version 2.0 of Blades of Fire, which brings a range of new content and technical improvements. Version 2.0 will be delivered as a free update on May 14 and adds features such as New Game Plus, a new Titanium challenge level, additional weapon parts and skins exclusive to New Game Plus, and an Elements Transmutation system that enables players to change material types. A Photo Mode and a Boss Revival Mode are also being introduced, the latter allowing players to replay boss fights and earn rewards.

Boss Revival Mode will also tie into expanded combat options through Adso’s spells, which can be applied to weapons to grant special effects and deeper customization. Among the lighter additions is the ability to pet the Ox in-game.

Technical and quality of life updates are part of the Version 2.0 package as well. The update expands death and mutilation variations, improves animation transitions, and implements Nvidia DLSS4 support. Full key remapping for keyboard and mouse controls will be available, along with new Steam achievements and Steam Deck support.

In addition to the base game, the Steam release includes the Adventurer Pack, a digital artbook, and the original soundtrack composed by Óscar Araujo.

Blades of Fire launches on Steam on May 14, 2026, with the demo available now ahead of release.
