Blizzard Entertainment is currently working on a AAA RPG FPS title, according to the resume of the company’s Senior Director of Product Management.
As per the LinkedIn profile of Chris McCabe, Senior Director of Product Management at Blizzard Entertainment, the studio is currently working on an unannounced AAA RPG FPS title. He began working on the game from April, 2024, and the project is at least 5 months into development. It is also mentioned that the RPG-FPS is being developed for both console (likely current-gen) and PC.
As of writing, no other information on Blizzard Entertainment’s unannounced RPG-FPS project is available. It may be a spin-off of one of the company’s popular IPs, or it may end up being an entirely new IP altogether. Only time will tell, and it doesn’t look like that time is coming anytime soon, since the game is likely very early in development. We believe a role-playing game/first-person shooter based on the Starcraft IP would be very enticing
Speaking of Blizzard Entertainment’s popular IPs, it was previously revealed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during the company’s first quarter (Q1) Fiscal Year 2024 earnings call that the software giant now owns 13 different video game franchises worth over $1 Billion after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King. While no specific names were given for the aforementioned franchises, they include Minecraft, Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Age of Empires, Flight Simulator, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Call of Duty, Warcraft, Starcraft, Overwatch, and Diablo.
The aforementioned Starcraft is a military science fiction franchise developed by Chris Metzen and James Phinney. Set in the early 26th century, the series revolves around a galactic conflict between four species, namely the adaptable Terrans, the evolving Zerg, the powerful Protoss, and the creator race Xel’Naga, in the Koprulu Sector of the Milky Way galaxy. The franchise has expanded to include several games, novels, and a board game.
