Silent Hill 2 remake and Cronos: The New Dawn developer Bloober Team is teasing a new project, possibly a remake of Punchline’s Rule of Rose.
Bloober Team has launched a new website that teases its upcoming title, and early signs point to a remake of Punchline’s 2006 survival horror game, Rule of Rose. The page contains a timer that ends on February 14, 2026, and message that reads, “Some things never leave the walls. They only learn to wait.” It is accompanied by a background audio clip.
The original Rule of Rose was criticized for its awkward and difficult gameplay. If Bloober Team can keep the original story intact while improving the gameplay and making it more accessible, it may deliver another successful survival horror game remake.
For the uninitiated, the original Rule of Rose was released in 2006 for the PS2. The story takes place in 1930s Britain and follows Jennifer, a nineteen-year-old woman who becomes ensnared in a surreal environment ruled by a group of girls organized into a strict social order called the Red Crayon Aristocrats. Rather than pursuing conventional scares, developer Punchline aimed to craft a different kind of experience centered on psychological tension. This creative direction led them to explore themes of childhood, focusing on the enigmatic and often misunderstood behavior of young girls. The narrative drew heavily from the dark undertones of Brothers Grimm fairy tales, while the visual presentation and artistic direction were influenced by the Silent Hill series. To enhance the emotional impact, the soundtrack was recorded entirely with live studio musicians, giving the music a more organic and human quality.
Upon launch elsewhere, Rule of Rose’s reception was divided, with most criticism directed at its gameplay mechanics. The game has often been likened to Silent Hill and Haunting Ground, particularly due to its focus on psychological horror and the inclusion of a dog companion that aids the protagonist.
