The creator of the 60 fps patch for FromSoftware’s action role-playing game, Bloodborne, has been hit with a DMCA notice from publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment after 3 years.
Modder Lance McDonald took to Twitter/X to share that he has received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment over the patch he had released for Bloodborne in order to allow it to run at 60 fps back in February, 2021.
According to McDonald, the DMCA notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment asked him to remove links to the 60 fps Bloodborne patch he had posted on the internet. As such, he mentioned that he complied with the publisher’s demand and removed all links to the patch.
For those unaware of the 60 fps Bloodborne patch, those who have a modded PS4, PS4 Pro, or PS5 should be able to install this patch on their copy and run the game with better performance. The patch downgrades the resolution to 720p on PS4 and PS4 Pro in order to get the performance headroom to target 60 fps.
Meanwhile, those who don’t have access to a modded PS4, PS4 Pro, or PS5, PS4 emulator ShadPS4 has made major progress over recent updates, and it is now able to run Bloodborne. While there are still some lingering graphical errors and missing visual effects, the game is, for the most part, playable, even on on the Steam Deck. Given how the AMD Zen 2 based Steam Deck CPU is considerably more powerful than the PS4’s Jaguar CPU, it’s not too surprising that the handheld is able to emulate the console’s titles. What’s really impressive, however, is the speed at which the ShadPS4 emulator has been progressing.
As for those hellbent on holding out for a Bloodborne port or remaster, Twitter/X influencer and writer DanielRPK previously claimed to have heard about a new Bloodborne project that has been in development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, though he said that he wasn’t sure whether it is a sequel or a remaster. Earlier, streamer Kai Cenat streamed his playthrough of Bloodborne in order to convince Sony to work on a remaster or remake.
