Borderlands 4 Concept Art Has Been Revealed

The first ever concept art for 2K and Gearbox Software’s upcoming action role-playing game, Borderlands 4, has been revealed.

A week after the announcement of Borderlands 4 at Gamescom 2024’s Opening Night Live, Gearbox Software has revealed the first ever concept art for the game at PAX West in Seattle. During the panel, several of the creative leads discussed the thought process involved in developing the next entry in the Borderlands series. Participants included Andrew Reiner (Global Creative Executive Officer), Randy Varnell (Chief Creative Officer), Anthony Nicholson (Senior Project Producer), Sam Winkler (Narrative Director), Adam May (Art Director), and Graeme Timmins (Creative Director), who talked about how they strike a balance in creating a new entry while staying true to what existing fans have enjoyed for over a decade.

While the concept art doesn’t say much about the game, it does give a sense of the aesthetic direction it will take. Though, whether Borderlands 4 will ditch the cartoon-esque art style in favor of a more realistic or different stylized look remains to be seen. Going by the concept art, we’re inclined to go with the latter.

Borderlands 4 is set to be released for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. For those who have yet to catch up on the series, the most recent entry, Borderlands 3, recently received an update with some Quality of Life features. One notable addition is the capability for players to create a Max Level Character directly from the main menu, provided they have already completed the game and have at least one character at the maximum level. This feature simplifies the process for veteran players who desire to explore the game with different character builds without the necessity to replay the entire campaign.
