PlayStationSize on Twitter/X has revealed the pre-load date and download size for Borderlands 4, courtesy of recent database entries made to PlayStation servers. The upcoming action role-playing first-person looter shooter will take up a reasonably modest amount of storage space on the PS5. That said, those with limited available space on the internal storage drive are advised to clear up some space in advance. It goes without saying that storage expansion options are available for those who need them.

The pre-load for Borderlands 4 will come with the latest update i.e. version 01.002.001, pre-installed for anyone who pre-ordered a digital copy of the game, though an update may be rolled out closer to release on September 12, 2025. Meanwhile, those who purchased the game on disc will likely be required to download the update. The file size of the PS5 version of Borderlands 4 (28.168 GB) is a little over half the size of the PS5 version of Borderlands 3 (52.927 GB).
The review embargo for Borderlands 4 is expected to be lifted close to launch day. While the exact time has not been confirmed, it will likely follow typical patterns, with the embargo lifting at 12 AM PT / 3 AM ET / 9 AM CET.
Borderlands 4 is set to launch on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release following on October 3, 2025. Gearbox has described the game’s environment as fully seamless, meaning players will be able to move between regions without encountering any loading screens. It is being designed as the most expansive and open-ended installment in the series thus far.
