Gearbox Software has officially revealed its post-launch roadmap for Borderlands 4, offering fans an early look at upcoming expansions, free content, and the first new Vault Hunter joining the game after launch. The roadmap confirms that the first downloadable content will debut in early 2026 with a mix of story-driven missions, bosses, and cosmetic rewards.
The highlight of the announcement is the introduction of C4SH, the first DLC Vault Hunter, who will arrive in Q1 2026 as part of Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. C4SH will be playable alongside new story missions, a fresh map zone, side quests, legendary gear, and an assortment of cosmetics, including Vault Hunter heads, weapon skins, vehicle skins, and ECHO-4 drone customizations. Players can unlock the new character by owning the Super Deluxe Edition, the Vault Hunter Pack, or Story Pack 1.
The roadmap lays out a steady stream of content beyond the game’s launch. Beginning in Q4 2025, Borderlands 4 players will receive free content such as the seasonal mini-event Horrors of Kairos, new legendary weapons, cosmetics, and a weather variant. Paid content in the same window includes Bounty Pack 1, which delivers new missions, a boss, additional legendary gear, and an expansive Vault Card system featuring cosmetics, gear, and unique customization options.
Looking ahead to Q1 2026, Gearbox promises even more. Free updates will add an “Invincible Boss” challenge, new legendary weapons, and an additional level for Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. Bounty Pack 2 will expand the game further with missions, bosses, gear, and cosmetic rewards. This period also marks the arrival of Story Pack 1, which introduces C4SH and the expansive Vault of the Damned storyline.
Beyond Q1, the roadmap hints at continued support with Bounty Packs 3 and 4, Story Pack 2, additional Invincible Bosses, and other content not yet revealed. Weekly events such as Mayhem missions, rotating bosses, and Maurice’s Black Market Machine are also confirmed to keep the player base engaged with ongoing challenges.
Released on September 12, 2025, Borderlands 4 is the latest entry in the long-running looter shooter franchise, developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for a future date.
