Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Port Delayed Indefinitely, Digital Pre-orders to Be Cancelled

The release of Borderlands 4 on the Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed indefinitely, leaving fans without a confirmed launch date. Publisher 2K and developer Gearbox Software confirmed the news, citing the need for additional development time to improve the experience and implement planned features.

In a statement shared through the official Borderlands account, the team explained, “We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that. Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important. We will update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans.”

As part of the delay, all digital pre-orders made through the Nintendo eShop will be cancelled in accordance with Nintendo’s policy. Customers can choose to manually cancel now, or otherwise expect automatic cancellations beginning Friday, September 26. Physical pre-orders remain unaffected, but players will need to contact their respective retailers for further details.

The announcement comes as Borderlands 4 faces ongoing criticism regarding performance issues on PC and consoles, with fans reporting inconsistent frame rates and technical hiccups since its September 12 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. The game was initially planned to debut on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3, though the indefinite delay now puts that release in question.

Despite the setback, Gearbox expressed gratitude toward the community, writing, “We greatly appreciate the feedback, support and patience of our fans and community. It’s truly what keeps us going.”
