Bungie has premiered a new developer video titled Vision of Marathon, offering a deeper look at its upcoming PvPvE survival extraction shooter and confirming key details about the game’s direction, features, and release plans. The ViDoc outlines how Marathon is shaping up as a darker, more grounded science fiction experience, while also confirming that the game is scheduled to launch in March 2026.
Set on the lost colony world of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon places players in the role of bio-cybernetic Runners tasked with scavenging dangerous environments for valuable resources. Players must contend not only with hostile security forces and environmental hazards, but also with other Runners competing for survival and extraction. Bungie emphasized the constant tension between risk and reward, with every run carrying the possibility of escaping with loot or losing everything.
During the ViDoc, the development team highlighted several gameplay additions and refinements. These include proximity chat, support for solo queue play, and the introduction of a Rook Runner shell designed with a limited loadout for scavenging active matches. Bungie also pointed to broader improvements aimed at deepening immersion and increasing the sense of danger, alongside higher graphical fidelity and a refreshed user interface.
Bungie also confirmed Marathon’s platform and pricing plans. The game will release on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, with full cross-play and cross-save support across all platforms. The current target price is set at $39.99, €39.99, and £34.99, with additional regional pricing details to be announced later. Hands-on access will be available to all players ahead of launch, though specific timing has not yet been detailed.
Post-launch support was another major focus of the presentation. Bungie stated that all players will receive access to ongoing gameplay updates, including new maps, Runner shells, and events as they roll out. Season 1 will open the Cryo Archive, the first deck of the UESC Marathon ship. The studio also stressed its commitment to competitive integrity, confirming there will be no pay-to-win mechanics and that spending money will never determine whether a player successfully extracts or dies.
Marathon will feature Rewards Passes that do not expire, allowing players to earn rewards from previously purchased passes at any time. Players will also be able to purchase older passes they may have missed. Bungie said more information on seasonal content and the long-term roadmap will be shared closer to launch, with additional updates planned for January 2026.
