Call of Duty Black Ops 7 Beta Highlights Major Graphics Gap Between PS4 and PS5

by Salal Awan

The closed beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is now live, giving players an early look at the technical differences between console generations. A graphics comparison of Black Ops 7 beta between the PS4 and PS5 versions highlights how the aging hardware is being pushed to its limits while next-gen systems maintain a far smoother experience.

On PS4, the game makes heavy visual compromises to remain playable. Environmental interactions are reduced, while lighting, shadows, textures, and level of detail are significantly pared back compared to its PS5 counterpart. Performance is also inconsistent, with frame rates fluctuating between 40 and 60 frames per second, making the experience less stable.

Meanwhile, the PS5 version fares considerably better. Even when running in 120Hz mode, where resolution, shadows, and reflections are slightly reduced, the overall presentation remains strong. Frame rates hold steady in both 60Hz and 120Hz modes, allowing players to enjoy a fluid experience. The improvements underline the clear generational leap, though the fact that the PS4 can still run such a demanding title after more than a decade is itself surprising.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 continues the long-running sub-series with a story set in 2035, picking up threads from Black Ops II. Alongside its campaign, the title will feature traditional multiplayer modes as well as round-based Zombies. The game is scheduled for release on November 14, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.

As the beta makes clear, PS5 players can expect the most polished experience, while PS4 owners will receive a scaled-back but still functional version. The technical contrast may not be surprising after 12 years of supporting the older platform, but it is a testament to the series’ reach that both generations remain in the mix for Activision’s flagship shooter.
