Despite falling short of recent entries, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 remains ahead of competitors like Battlefield 6 and ARC Raiders in terms of player count, according to a new rumor.

Known insider and Call of Duty enthusiast charlieINTEL took to Twitter/X to share that, based on what they’ve heard from their sources, the player count for Black Ops 7 has been lower than that of Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare 3 during their respective few weeks after launch. However, their follow-up comment put things in perspective, claiming that Call of Duty has such a tremendous player base overall that falling short of recent years is still higher than the player count of competitors, putting it ahead of Battlefield 6 and ARC Raiders.

Fellow insider and Call of Duty enthusiast TheGhostOfHope mentioned hearing from their sources during recent weeks that a lot of the budget for the post-launch seasons (at least the later ones) for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been pulled back, given the performance of launch sales. Though, they’re currently unaware which specific components of the game have been impacted.

Based on what charlieINTEL has heard, however, post-launch plans for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 have been set for a while. Their sources told them that the Endgame content has been confirmed through Season 3, and other modes will have expected content cadence for all seasons. This lines up with TheGhostOfHope’s original report, according to which Seasons 1 through 4 will go ahead as initially planned, and the last two seasons will slow down. As such, it’s possible this was always the plan. They mentioned that it’s also possible that Activision/Treyarch may just cut Season 6 out entirely and have Season 5 be the last season before the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC. Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
