Call of Duty Black Ops 7 Receives M18 Rating in Singapore for Intense Violence and Language

by Ali Haider

The upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops 7 has officially been rated by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), with the regulator assigning an M18 classification due to its strong depictions of violence, gore, and frequent coarse language. The decision outlines the mature themes and content that players can expect when the game launches later this year.

According to the IMDA, the first-person shooter is set in the year 2035, a time when global conflict has left the world in turmoil. The narrative follows David Mason as he leads an elite task force to Avalon, where the team must confront both external threats and the traumas of their past. Players will experience missions from both a traditional first-person perspective and, at times, a top-down view. Weapons ranging from pistols and shotguns to grenades and missiles can be used against human and monstrous foes, while vehicles and grappling hooks enhance traversal across combat zones.

The rating board described the gameplay as frenetic, noting that battlefields will often be littered with bloodstained bodies and damaged environments. Players face relentless waves of enemies, including grotesque zombies, and combat frequently involves graphic violence. Encounters can lead to decapitations, dismemberment, and explosions of blood and flesh, with blood splatters also appearing on screen when the protagonist sustains damage. The IMDA stated that under its M18 guidelines, such portrayals of killing, maiming, and serious injury fall within the permitted classification.

Language also factored into the decision. The IMDA cited the use of expletives such as “motherf*ker” and “f**k,” alongside additional coarse terms like “sh*t,” “b*tch,” and “damn.” These, the board explained, constitute the frequent use of strong coarse language allowed under the M18 rating. In addition, the game includes depictions of voluptuous female characters dressed in tight or revealing outfits, most prominently seen in menu sections.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is being co-developed by Treyarch and Raven Software under publisher Activision. The game marks the twenty-second entry in the franchise and the eighth installment in the Black Ops storyline. Its single-player campaign continues the events of Black Ops II while also supporting co-op play. In addition, players can expect the familiar multiplayer suite and the return of the popular Zombies mode.

The game will be released worldwide on November 14, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC.
