In a major update to the Call of Duty community, Activision has confirmed that operators, operator skins, and weapons from Black Ops 6 will not transfer into Black Ops 7. The announcement comes as part of Treyarch and Raven’s broader vision to return to the identity of Call of Duty’s earlier roots, with Black Ops 7 described as a spiritual successor to Black Ops 2.
The decision to reset player progression has already sparked debate among fans, particularly as cross-title content carryover had become an expectation in recent years. According to the studio, the reset was necessary to preserve the authenticity of Black Ops 7’s setting and tone. “Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting. That is why Black Ops 6 Operator and Weapon content will not carry forward to Black Ops 7,” the team explained.
Not all progress will be lost, however. Double XP tokens and GobbleGums will carry forward, a move Treyarch says acknowledges the importance of player time and progression. Additionally, content in Call of Duty: Warzone remains unaffected, ensuring that Black Ops 6 cosmetics and weapons can still be used within the free-to-play battle royale.
The update also outlined new anti-cheat measures coming to Black Ops 7. Building on improvements made in Black Ops 6, the RICOCHET system will introduce stricter requirements, including Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 on PC starting November 14. These changes aim to make it more difficult for cheat makers to bypass protections. Further detection tools are scheduled to debut during the beta and will roll out fully at launch.
Looking ahead, Treyarch promised more details on the upcoming entry. Multiplayer updates will highlight new maps, refined movement, and core gameplay adjustments, while Zombies fans can expect fresh details on launch content, a new Wonder Vehicle, and a reimagined Dark Aether storyline featuring the original crew. The game will also bring back classic Prestige progression alongside new systems for weapon mastery and seasonal challenges.
The full multiplayer reveal will arrive during Call of Duty: NEXT on September 30, followed by an Early Access Beta on October 2 and an Open Beta beginning October 5.
