Activision and Infinity Ward’s 2009 first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, may be headed to Xbox Game Pass.
Reddit user TypicalNarr has reported that they spotted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) featured in a promo for Xbox Game Pass Premium on their Xbox console. As of writing, the game is not available on Microsoft’s game subscription service, nor is it currently listed in the “Games Coming Soon” section. As such, it’s rather odd for it to be featured in the ad.

While Microsoft yet to make an official statement on the matter, it looks like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) will be making its way to Game Pass sometime soon. Since acquiring Activision, the software giant has intended to bring the latter’s full catalog of titles to its subscription service.
In December, 2024, older Call of Duty titles, including Call of Duty 1, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011), Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Call of Duty: WWII, began appearing on the Microsoft Store for PC, hinting at their arrival on the Xbox Game Pass catalog.
Recently, Bloomberg reported that Microsoft forfeited more than 300 million US Dollars in Xbox and PC sales last year after including the Call of Duty franchise in its subscription service. The figures came from internal estimates shared by a former employee who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Game Pass hasn’t delivered the explosive growth Microsoft anticipated post-Activision, and they’ve realized their infrastructure costs don’t align with their pricing model,” said Joost Van Dreunen, founder of the video-game analytics firm Aldora.
