Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Will Allegedly Be Current-Gen Only, Developed On Next-Gen Xbox Dev Kits

The next entry in Microsoft and Activision’s first-person shooter series, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, will allegedly be a current-gen only release.

According to known Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will not be released for PS4 and Xbox One. They also claimed that the game will feature a traditional UI similar to the one seen in older entries, even more so than Black Ops 6.

The insider further mentioned that the Infinity Ward engine is being overhauled to address problems seen in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, such as “visual clutter”. Additionally, they said that there will be no Warzone 3 if Verdansk fails to retain both existing and returning players.

Lastly, and more interestingly,the insider claimed that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is being developed on dev kits for the next Xbox console. Both the game and console are rumored for launch in Fall 2026.

The same insider had previously claimed that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release in 2026. They also shared that the game will feature both omnimovement and wall running mechanics. They also said that developer Infinity Ward will be remastering a majority of the classic maps from 2011’s original Modern Warfare 3 for the upcoming title alongside brand new original ones.

Furthermore, the leaker cautioned that this information is subject to change based on data, feedback and other factors, as Fall 2026 is a long ways away from now. That said, these are the studio’s current plans. They mentioned that Infinity Ward is looking to avoid making the same errors it had made with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.

Te insider had also claimed that Sledgehammer Games is slated to lead its own entry in the Call of Duty series in 2027. They had also clarified that the game isn’t a Year 2 Modern Warfare release like Modern Warfare 3.
