Call of Duty veteran Jason Blundell has founded Dark Outlaw Games under Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation.

During an interview on the Jeff Gerstmann Show podcast, the Call of Duty veteran and Deviation Games co-founder was asked about the new project he is in the process of starting. In response, Jason Blundell shared that he’s had the opportunity of creating a new studio within PlayStation Studios, for Sony, called Dark Outlaw Games.

Blundell mentioned that he has been working in the shadows for a while. He plans on sharing more details on Dark Outlaw Games’ first title once the development team has something to talk about. According to him, the reason the new studio isn’t doing any fanfare or shouting out from the rooftops is to get to a certain point with the game. He did reveal that the project’s has been in development for some time, though he refrained from mentioning the genre or nature of the game. Given his area of expertise, it would be surprising if it didn’t end up being a shooter with a prominent multiplayer component.

Back in May, 2024, Michael Anthony, former Technical Director at Deviation Games, had mentioned hearing about a lot of other former developers from the studio getting together to setup their own team at Sony Interactive Entertainment in order work on an undisclosed PlayStation IP. He said that all the people that had signed up are top class developers, and he hoped that they would create a top class new IP with their studio. He also hoped that they would be given all the time they needed to create a quality product, and that they wouldn’t have to deal with “red tape” from previous projects.

For the uninitiated, Jason Blundell is known for his work on the Call of Duty Zombies mode. He began his career at Activision, originally working as a Programmer and Producer for various titles. Later, he held key roles at Treyarch, such as Executive Producer for Call of Duty: Black Ops, Campaign Design Director for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Game Director for both the campaign and Zombies modes in Call of Duty: Black Ops III and For Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Eventually, he became part of Deviation Games, but the games he was working on were canceled alongside the studio’s closure.
